The legendary Jacques Cousteau considered that the nutrient-rich, current-swept waters between Vancouver Island and mainland BC offer the best cold-water diving in the world. Certainly, it's hard to imagine anywhere else outside the tropics with as much life and colour. This was my third trip to dive the Emerald Sea. This time, three friends and I went to Quadra Island, just off Campbell River, about half way up the East side of Vancouver Island. We stayed and dived with DynaMike Dive Charters, which I can thoroughly recommend.

The convivial owner/skipper, Mike Richmond, knows these waters like the back of his hand and his charming wife Darlene prepares three delicious meals a day for their guests. Nothing is too much trouble for Mike and Darl.
